Harvesting Garlic Scapes!
These are garlic scapes. They are curly thick stems with flower heads that the garlic plant sends up in June. It is best to clip these off of the garlic plants so that the energy goes toward making a bigger bulb (garlic head under the ground) instead of making a flower. Garlic scapes are edible and delicious!! They go great in stir-fry or any potato recipe. Tonight for dinner I chopped them up and added them to a potato gratin. Here are some other recipe ideas for garlic scapes from the Huffington Post.
