I had the pleasure and good fortune of harvesting okra from a local community garden this September. I have always known that okra will grow in Utah but I had never seen it in action. It is a strange and wonderful tall plant with beautiful large pale yellow flowers. The plants produced a lot of okra in August and September - each flower creates an okra pod just a few days after it blooms. I sautéed the okra with shallots, cumin seeds, ground coriander and lemon juice. It was so good I think I will grow my own okra next year!
